Now that I’ve rejoined the wonderful world of corporate America (and have quite the lengthy commute), I’ve gotten very into podcasts. And I mean very into them. My mornings aren’t complete without listening to my podcasts.
I talked about my love for The Daily in this post. And, if you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve seen me mention a few of my other faves on Instagram Stories. But I thought it about time I sat down and shared my favorite podcasts you should be listening to (and why I love them!).

My love for podcasts is a very recent development. About a year ago, my friend Katherine introduced me to the podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno. I didn’t even understand what podcasts were before that. Now that I think about it, I may have had to download the podcast app in order to listen to it. That’s how new I was to the world of podcasts.
Jump ahead about 12 months and I listen to at least one episode of one podcast every single day.
Before we dive in to the 5 podcasts you should be listening to, I do want to share one honorable mention. The Daily Show does an “ears edition” which I love. However, this didn’t make the official list because The Daily Show is a TV show. The rest of these podcasts are just podcasts (though some have associated live comedy shows). Basically, I still recommend checking out The Daily Show on podcasts, even though it didn’t make the list below.
5 Podcasts You Should Be Listening To
I’m sure you caught this title above and were like wait WHAT.
Yeah – it’s great.
This comedy podcast is pretty self-explanatory: it’s about a guy (Jamie) whose dad wrote a porno (aka an exotic novel). Each episode, Jamie gets together with his two friends from undergrad (James and Alice) and they dissect the porno line-by-line in excruciating detail. This podcast has quite the cult following, frequently featuring guest stars ranging from Daisy Ridley to Dame Emma Thompson. My Dad Wrote a Porno is crude and hilarious and everybody’s British… so obviously I love it.
10/10 would recommend.
I’ve spoken about this podcast previously so I’m not going to spend too much time on it in this post. I listen to The Daily every morning as I’m getting ready for work. At this point, I rely on it to stay informed about what is going on in the world.
Each episode is a deep dive into a subject. Episodes this week focused on President George H.W. Bush’s legacy, the United States’ ever-evolving relationship with China, and the power grab currently happening in Wisconsin.
If you’re a fan of The Skimm, you’re going to love Skimm’d from the Couch. Each episode, the founders of The Skimm chat on their couch with a different female trailblazer. These women come from a variety of industries – from finance to entertainment to dating apps – and the conversations focus on how their career developed into what it is today and what advice they’d give to somebody starting out now.
I love listening to this podcast on my drive to/from the office as I think it puts me in the right mindset to take on my day. Here are these women who come from such a variety of backgrounds, who have accomplished so much, and are giving their advice to the next generation. I love it.
This one is a recent discovery. But it has definitely earned its place on my list of 5 podcasts you should be listening to… and not just because I’ve been listening to it lately (hah).
I feel smarter having listened to Slow Burn. I feel like I’m more informed and aware of the history of this country, and I believe that listening to podcasts like Slow Burn make you a more interesting person.
Slow Burn is a podcast about political scandals. The first season was a deep dive into Nixon and the Watergate scandal, and the second season is all about Bill Clinton, Whitewater, and Monica Lewinsky. It features in-depth interviews with people who played pivotal roles in each controversy and is incredibly well-researched.
My dad came to visit me last weekend and I had this podcast on in the car as we drove to/from dinner. And he loved it.
If you find politics, American history, or political scandals interesting, you will love this podcast.
Finally, last but quite certainly not least, the funniest friggin podcast I listen to regularly: Girls Gotta Eat. While My Dad Wrote a Porno is absolutely hilarious, I might venture to say that Girls Gotta Eat is even funnier.
This podcast is all about the lives of these two ladies in their early 30s in Manhattan. And it largely focuses on their sex lives. It’s basically a modern (and actually funny) Sex & The City.
Don’t @ me. Sex & The City isn’t funny and Carrie is legit the worst. You’re not gonna change my opinion.
But back to the podcast: it’s seriously hilarious. One of the girls is a professional comedian, while the other is simply outlandish and funny. They feature special guests regularly (usually comedians, but they have featured a sex therapist before). The special guests are usually just as funny (if not funnier) than the hosts.
If you’re looking for a podcast that will make you double over with laughter, I cannot recommend Girls Gotta Eat highly enough.
